PCI Express to ExpressCard 34|54 Drive Read-Writer with Low Profile Option More Like This This PCI Express to ExpressCard 34|54 Drive Read-Writer with Low Profile Option enables PCIe based desktop computers to utilize ExpressCard applications. The reader accepts both ExpressCard 34 and 54 cards, and is completely transparent to any card inserted. Plug the included USB cable into an available port (preferably internal), plug the reader into an open PCIe slot, and installation is complete! The device itself requires no drivers. The PCIe 1X configuration allows for the full 250MB/s (megabytes) throughput for PCIe based ExpressCards, while the USB 2.0 configuration allows USB 2.0 ExpressCards to operate at their 480Mb/s (megabits) speed. A great way to share devices between modern laptops and desktops, the PCIe to ExpressCard 54 reader is an smart addition for desktop machines. The device comes with both full height and low profile backplane brackets to accomodate both form factors.

[1] NOTE: hot swap or activating the controller requires one of the following conditions
  1. ExpressCard device must be ed into the PCI-E to ExpressCard controller prior to system boot up to activate the controller. Afterwards, ExpressCard can be removed or re with the same or different ExpressCard
  2. Motherboard must have special hardware and the appropriate ACPI firmware incorporated into the BIOS. This firmware, in addition to handle the hardware, must also account for different OS capability. Windows 2000, Windows 2003, and Windows XP are all non PCI-E aware OS and will not support hot swap.
